FIBRY®

Bang & Bonsomer acquires majority of shares in a clean-tech company Betulium Oy and invests in application development, commercialisation and production of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) and nanocellulose (CNF) based on Betulium’s technology.

A production factory is built in Säkylä Finland to produce MFC from agricultural side streams, such as sugar beet and potato pulp which are left after sugar or starch extraction. The factory produced first commercial scale production in March 2019. Bang & Bonsomer will market MFC and CNF globally under FIBRY brand name.

FIBRY is a natural high-tech polymer, which can replace synthetic polymers in various industrial applications, such as paints & coatings, construction, personal & home care, food, feed, composites and packaging. FIBRY has a low carbon footprint and as a natural polymer FIBRY is not a source of micro-plastics like synthetic polymers.

Bang & Bonsomer has been an investor in Betulium since 2017, and the companies have had close cooperation in technical application development and commercialization of MFC and CNF. Co-operation has been very promising, and companies see a large global potential for FIBRY.

Bang & Bonsomer is a material technology company and a distributor for a wide range of industrial raw materials and additives in Finland, Scandinavia, CIS-countries and the Baltic States. Bang & Bonsomer has seven industry-oriented business units that specialize in sales and services for industry focused applications. In 2018 group sales were 170 M€ and number of employees over 300.

Betulium’s founders Marko Lauraeus and Antti Laukkanen will stay in the company after acquisition as key managers for further development of FIBRY technology and as minority shareholders of Betulium.
